Projects:
Each
year, ICD awards scholarship funds to students at the
University of Colorado School of Dentistry, and participates
in the funding of the school's golf tournament. The
Colorado constituent is permitted eight fellow candidates
for induction to each annual class. We strive to spread
fellowship to Colorado dentists. ICD meets in conjunction
with the ACD and PFA twice a year at breakfast meetings
held at the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention and the
CDA Annual Session. We keep ICD Fellows informed of
ICD activities nationally and internationally, and participate
in international projects.
Recent
and Future Events:
We
have developed an e-mail distribution list of our members
and are communicating electronically at every opportunity.
We have also developed this Web page, hosted by the
CDA. On it, we are offering some basic information about
ICD, our activities and a direct link to the ICD USA
site. Our projects for this past year include a scholarship
granted to an incoming senior dental student at the
University of Colorado School of Dentistry and the sponsorship
of a hole at the school's fundraising golf tournament.
Our
Colorado ICD Fellows are also engaged in an international
project. We are purchasing equipment for a volunteer
children's dental clinic in Labo, Philippines.
Our fundraising phase is complete and an agreement has
been reached on the equipment to be purchased.
With the costly local economy of Labo, as it often happens,
expenses are a bit higher than originally calculated.
This issue is being solved by partnering with the local
Rotary Club in Thornton, CO. Should you be involved
with a group or an organization that would like to assist
in this fashion for future projects, please contact
your deputy regent.
Our
membership expanded by five new members in 2004. This
year, we hope to be adding eight new Fellows to our
roster in Colorado. Thank you for taking the time
to recognize our peers and submitting their names
for nomination. This process never ceases. Please
continue to ask those qualified candidates to consider
membership in the International College.
The
first annual White Coat Ceremony was held at CU School
of Dentistry this spring. White clinic coats,
embroidered with each of the sophomore student's names,
were presented by the leadership of ICD, ACD and PFA. I
would like to thank all of our members who were present
for this wonderful event. Thank you also to Dr. Leone,
Dr. Litvak and Dr. Brewick, who assisted in the presentation. We
welcome these forthcoming dentists to organized dentistry
with open arms. They WILL be our future leadership. We
are currently developing a Web link for photographs
depicting this event.
We are also soliciting digital photographs/images
of activities that our membership is involved in to
include on this Web link. These might include
our members being involved in volunteer activities (such
as Give Kids a Smile Day), disaster relief activities,
our presentation of scholarship awards, the Open Wider
Open golf tournament (which we help sponsor for CUSD),
etc. Please send these photos and images to: drjim@sopris.net.
