Fluoride Issues Continue in Colorado

From Loveland to Montrose, and Breckenridge in between, several communities across Colorado have been dealing with fluoridation issues. The good news: Loveland has decided to continue fluoridating its water and to increase fluoride levels. The bad news: Montrose, Delta and neighboring communities still are without optimal fluoride in their drinking water.

Dental Board Sunset Review Rulemaking

The Colorado Dental Board recently published the final rules that will be considered at the upcoming rulemaking hearing on Sunset Review rule changes. The final rule draft may be viewed here.There will be an opportunity to provide testimony and/or written comments on the proposed rules during the formal rulemaking hearing, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. at 1560 Broadway, Denver, CO 80202 (Conference Room 1250C).

GV Black Tie Evening to Remember

The Colorado Dental Association New Dentist Committee (NDC) held the 1st Annual G.V. Black Tie Social event on Friday, Nov 21.  Sponsors of the NDC and 130 new dentists attended, and enjoyed a fun evening of socializing, networking, and gaming at the Oxford Hotel in Denver.  The attendees also had the opportunity for a photo shoot in front of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree at the historic hotel. Colorado’s PDMP: A Vital Practice Management Tool

If you haven’t already, be sure to register with Colorado's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). All dentists with a DEA registration were required to register with Colorado's PDMP by Oct. 31. As of Nov. 6, only 60% of Colorado dentists had completed this required registration. If you have not already signed up to use the PDMP, you may register for an account at: http://www.hidinc.com/copdmp. Detailed instructions on the registration process can be accessed here. For questions about the PDMP registration process, contact the PDMP helpdesk at 855-263-6403. The Colorado Dental Board has proposed a fine, starting at $1,250 for dentists who fail to complete the PDMP registration.

Reminder: Nov. 30, 2014 Deadline for Input on X-Ray Fee Increase

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) recently proposed changes to the fees charged for certification of x-ray machines. This proposed change would affect nearly all dental offices. The fee increases are currently expected to be implemented in the second quarter of 2015.

The Colorado Dental Board recently published draft rules related to the 2014 Sunset Review Bill (HB14-1227) for formal input from the dental community. ADA Licenses CDA Commercial for National Use

Just one year ago this month, the CDA produced a commercial informing the public about the difference between CDA member and non-member dentists.  This commercial ran statewide and gained national attention from several states and the American Dental Association.  This month, the CDA licensed the commercial to the ADA for national use.  The ADA will personalize the commercial for other state dental associations and societies to use at no cost to represent their memberships.  View the CDA commercial by clicking here.
