Drug Take Back Program

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is hosting a nationwide drug take-back event on Saturday, Sept. 25.  Patients will be able to drop off unwanted and expired drugs at sites around the state to be disposed of properly.  The event is being organized to provide a safe and environmentally friendly disposal option for these drugs. The service is free and anonymous, and can accept narcotics and other controlled substances (which is a new and much needed service).

Dental Offices Recognized as Environmental Leaders

The Environmental Leadership Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recently expanded to recognize practices within the dental community.  Three dental offices will be recognized by the governor as Bronze Achievers for their sustainable practices at a banquet in early September:

• CDA member Dr. Heidi Winquist of Heidi Winquist, DDS, PC;
• CDA members Dr. F. Robert Murphy, Dr. Paul Sica, Dr. Julie Ann Brown and Dr. David Welden of the North Boulder Dental Group; and
• Shelby Kahl, R.D.H., P.C.

Practice Transition “Speed Dating” Event – Register Today!

August 10, 2010

Don’t forget! On August 21, the CDA new dentist committee has organized a prime opportunity for members interested in buying, selling or transitioning a practice.  Set up in a “speed dating” format, the program will allow “buyers” and “sellers” to meet for five minute increments and look for a match as they exchange details like practice location, office overview and general patient information. There is no charge for this program, which is open exclusively to CDA members.

PCI Compliance Scam Alert

In mid-June, the CDA alerted members to questionable practices by some vendors related to PCI (payment card industry) credit card processing compliance.  PCI compliance concerns the security of credit card information.  At least one company has engaged in some questionable marketing tactics related to PCI compliance.  For full information on this potential scam, click here.

Survey: Help Improve IRS Small Business Communications

In Memoriam: Dr. Tom Grams

gramssmThe CDA extends our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Dr. Tom Grams, who was tragically killed during a humanitarian medical mission in Afghanistan last Thursday.  Dr. Grams was an active member of the CDA for many years – retiring four years ago to make the transition to full-time humanitarian dental work.  Several news sources have honored Dr. Grams and his work, including the Denver Post, the Durango Herald and the ADA News.

A memorial service for Dr. Grams will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15 at the Smiley Building in Durango.
